Early morning traffic stop leads to manhunt and drug bust in Nevada
A traffic stop by Nevada state troopers early Tuesday morning turned into a massive manhunt and ended in three arrests and the seizure of more than $60,000 worth of cocaine. Nevada troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were joined by police officers from Reno, Nevada and Sparks and deputies from Washoe and Storey Counties, Nevada in the early morning search for a man who fled from a trooper during a traffic stop on Interstate 80 about halfway between Sparks, Nevada and Fernley, Nevada.
After a search that lasted about three hours, authorities located the driver, 30-year-old Mauro Ceballos, in the Truckee River near Patrick around 5:15 AM.
A man and a woman, 30-year-old Mario Garcia-Servin and 22-year-old Maria Marguerite Wieland-Garcia, who were passengers in the vehicle were taken into custody without a struggle.
Nevada troopers say they were carrying two kilograms of cocaine, estimated by police to be worth $60,000 to $90,000.
All three have been booked into the Washoe County, Nevada Jail facing at least five charges involving cocaine trafficking.
