Nevada Dentist Claims He Used Cocaine As A Numbing Agent

A Nevada local dentist has been arrested for possessing 57 grams of cocaine. Dr. Hamid Ahmadi told California authorities that the drug makes a good topical numbing agent. He claims he was using it in his patient's mouths.

We went to Dr. Hamid Ahmadi's house to see if he'd tell us his side of the story. Instead, we found undercover officers serving a search warrant.

Earlier in the week, they searched the dentist's office on south Decatur, Nevada. According to the search warrant, they found what they believed to be marijuana and some drug paraphernalia. Ahmadi's problems started on Monday, when he was pulled over on I-15, and according to official documents, was found to be in possession of 57 grams of cocaine -- that's about 2 ounces.

He reportedly told officers that he is a Las Vegas, Nevada area dentist who has about 7-thousand to 9-thousand patients. He claimed that one of the ounces of the drug was for his personal consumption, the other was for the use in his practice. Ahmadi told authorities that during his training, he'd been shown that liquid cocaine worked as a topical solution, however, the price of pharmaceutical cocaine is so expensive, he said, that he has taken to obtaining street cocaine converting it to liquid to use on his patients.

The search warrant goes on to say, when asked if his patients were aware that he was using cocaine on them, he said no, that he simply told them he was applying a topical solution that would numb the area.

I spoke with Dr. Laurie Bloch, an instructor at the Las Vegas, Nevada Institute for Advanced Dental Studies. She tells me, as far as their training, cocaine would never be used as a numbing agent. Attorney John Hunt, who represents the Nevada State Board of Dental Examiners tells us, when they found out about Ahmadi's arrest, they took immediate action. There's really no way to know if Ahmadi really gave this stuff to his patients, or if that was a cover story he told police.

Either way, the investigation continues. If you are a patient of Dr. Ahmadi's and think he used cocaine in your mouth without your knowledge, we want to hear your story. Contact: nradetich@kvbc.com
